Frequently asked questions

Quality & Formulation

Where are your products made?

Right here in the United States! We team up with local suppliers to make our freeze-dried dog food, so every bag starts with quality ingredients.

Do you follow WSAVA standards?

WSAVA is an international veterinary organization that offers helpful guidance for pet owners comparing foods, but it doesn't create or enforce regulations. We follow AAFCO standards, the U.S. nutritional guidelines that pet food makers are required to meet.

Do you use by-products?

Nope. Every protein in our recipes is a high-quality whole meat or fish, chosen for great nutrition and easy digestion.

Do I need to have water to rehydrate the food?

You should always have water nearby, especially for emergency situations (can't forget man's best friend!), but the food does not require water to rehydrate before consumption. It can be consumed dry.

How are your recipes formulated and tested?

Each recipe is built to meet the AAFCO nutrient profile for its intended life stage, which means it's complete and balanced. Our experienced nutritionists work alongside veterinarians to help support your dog's overall health.

How do I know I can trust the quality of Proclaim food and treats?

Quality is a promise, not a checkbox. From raw ingredients to your pup's bowl, every step is held to a high standard. Our freeze-dried recipes also go through a safety process that eliminates harmful bacteria while locking in the nutrients and flavor your dog loves.

How long does the food last?

Our bags currently carry a 2-year "Best By" date. We're also running an accelerated shelf life study so we can extend it to 10+ years. Our two founding partners spent more than 15 years combined in the emergency food industry, so we know just how long well-packaged freeze-dried food can last. We recommend rotating it into your dog's diet every now and again to keep it fresh and keep them used to eating it.

Ingredients

Where do you get your ingredients?

As close to home as we can. Many of our ingredients come from local farms, which keeps quality high and our connections strong.

Do your foods contain corn, soy, or wheat?

Nope! Our recipes are completely free of all three. We formulate carefully to avoid these common allergens while still delivering a balanced, nutritious meal.

Why do you use coconut meal?

Coconut meal is a quality carbohydrate that also brings along natural coconut oil, a source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It means we need less starch in the recipe, and it supports healthy digestion, skin, and a shiny coat.

What is the sodium content in your dog food?

All of our dog foods contain about 0.4% sodium on a dry matter basis, a little above the AAFCO minimum of 0.3%. That helps support normal nerve and muscle function and keeps electrolytes in balance.

General Questions

How do I switch my dog to Proclaim?

Take it slow. Transition over about 7 days to keep tummies happy, starting with mostly the old food and gradually increasing the Proclaim portion each day. Switching between recipes within the same Proclaim line? No transition needed, since they share a base formula.

How much should I feed my dog?

Start with the feeding guide on the bag. Every dog is different, so your pup's ideal portion depends on age, weight, activity level, and metabolism. Adjust up or down to keep them in a healthy body condition, and check with your vet if you're unsure.

What is the shelf life of Proclaim dog food?

Our bags currently carry a 2-year “Best By” date. We're also running an accelerated shelf life study so we can extend it to 10+ years. Our two founding partners spent more than 15 years combined in the emergency food industry, so we know just how long well-packaged freeze-dried food can last.

How should I store Proclaim food?

Keep it in a cool, dry place, and reseal the bag or move it to an airtight container after opening. We package our food in smaller bags so you can enjoy it while it's fresh. Plan to use it within 7 to 10 days of opening.

Is Proclaim suitable for puppies, seniors, or dogs with special dietary needs?

If your dog has a medical condition or specific allergies, we recommend checking with your veterinarian before making the switch.
